Happy 4th of July!

Happy Independence Day! The holiday has just officially started, but we've been celebrating all week!


 

I found some great 4th of July printables here, the girls had fun with this paint by number. Today we will be learning more about Independence Day w/some of her other papers. They also painted a bunch of coloring sheets from this site. I'm so glad creative people share their resources!







 The girls did a great job singing "This Land is Your Land" and "My Country Tis of Thee" in our church's patriotic program...















And I promised them they could dye their hair blue after the program - I just couldn't let them sing in front of the church w/blue hair, call me old-fashioned... :)




Then we came home and made red, white, and blue firecracker cupcakes. 


The original recipe is super easy from my friend here, and her cupcakes always look so perfect!  You have to check them out. My girls had so much fun, layering the different colored cake batter, then decorating the cupcakes after I frosted them. Family bonding at its best - in the kitchen!

I had "help" filling the liners, as you can see from the mess!
 Didn't have pull-n-peel licorice, so we "fringed" regular licorice.


We're rounding out today with a water fight at the park, a bbq, and some fireworks. All in all, a great way to spend my birthday - and America's, with the people I love most!!

Letter of the Week - P

Last week we had the most fun with the letter "P" for Hannah's preschool (I love it when there are activities all 3 girls can enjoy!) We've gone through the alphabet with a letter by letter emphasis, just to give some structure to our days and streamline activities. "P" is for...Penguins  We learned facts about penguins and made these adorable crafts, found here . (The only change we made was to use construction paper, since we had no paper plates on hand.) My girls all love penguins and had fun trying to imitate their walk. The first time we saw penguins at the zoo, Hannah bravely remarked, "I'm not afraid of penguins, they waddle!" "P" is for... Painting Linsey's art is through the K12 curriculum, so I just have the younger girls to modified versions of whatever she is doing, which happened to be painting this week. Memorial Day Memo

It's Monday - that means I have thought all morning about 5 random tidbits of our lives you might find amusing.  Here goes: 1)  I have always had (minor) self-esteem issues, especially when it comes to my peers.  When I was in elementary school,  I was convinced that my parents paid some nice girls to be my friends.  Just when I was starting to pull out of this (around college), I broke up with a guy I had been seeing during my freshman year.  In disgust at having been dumped, the guy spat out, "Well, Dr. R. (our college V.P.) told me to ask you out anyway!"  Fast forward to the next year...said V.P. told me after class one day to come to his office and he would help me find someone suitable to date.  Even though I was his secretary, I managed to avoid his office for the next 3 weeks, during which I met Tom, my husband.  When we started talking, it took me a full month to work up the courage to ask him if Dr. R. had told him to date me.  When he reassured me (like 5
